William "Sākanakwat" Waupochick, age 87, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in Shawano. William was born on June 4, 1937 in Keshena, son of the late Antoine and Virginia (Fredenberg) Waupochick. After graduating from Shawano High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for one year. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and was stationed in different locations including Italy during his time of his service. Once he returned home, he went on to live and work in Chicago and then at Giddens & Lewis in Fon Du Lac for several years. He returned to Keshena and continued to work as a custodian for St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit. He was a member St. Michaels Catholic Church. in his free time, William was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and found peace when in nature. He will be dearly missed.

William is survived by his siblings Anthony (Fay) Waupochick, of Keshena, and Paula (Hari) Bhalla, of Escondido, CA. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

William is preceded in death by his parents Antoine and Virginia and his sister Barbara Wilber.

A funeral service for William will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday July 11, 2024, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Keshena with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation following services.
